The Atlantic Water (AW) and the Levantine Intermediate Water (LIW), important water masses that play a crucial role in the internal variability of the Mediterranean thermohaline circulation, are undergoing a clear salinification and warming trend over the last two decades. To reach this conclusion, the scientists rely on 20 years of Argo data. They followed a sub-basin approach, which allowed to define the main hydrological features in different regions.
