8th EuroGOOS International Conference

The EuroGOOS international conference takes place every three years. It provides a forum for a broad range of implementers and users of operational oceanography services, including marine scientists and technologists, private companies, and policymakers. The 8th edition, entitled Operational Oceanography Serving Sustainable Marine Development, took place in Bergen, Norway, from 3 to 5 October 2017. The programme included talks spanning the marine information value chain, from data collection, to processing and modelling, as well as services to users and policy advice.

More information on the Conference objectives and programme can be found on the Conference web site.

The future of Argo in Europe with a polar focus was presented on 3 October by Claire Gourcuff. Fruitful informal discussions were also held during the week, in particular with people involved in the INTAROS project about possible future collaborations in the Arctic Ocean.

Two side events were also organized where the Euro-Argo ERIC was represented by Sylvie Pouliquen:

  • ENVRIplus side event: Marine monitoring and data capture for multidisciplinary research: the ENVRIplus approach – Monday 2 October, 15.00-18.00 (see programme here)
  • Jerico-Next side event: Assimilating technical best practice improvements to optimize network data flow – Thursday 5 October, 13.50-18.30 (see programme here)

The main outcomes of this 8th EuroGOOS International Conference are summarized on EuroGOOS web site.
